Consulting Services

  • I provide historical consulting for developers, architects, museums, nonprofits, and organizations seeking to incorporate the past into contemporary projects. Drawing on extensive archival research and public history experience, I help clients uncover, interpret, and communicate the historical significance of places, institutions, and communities.

Recent work includes serving as a historical consultant for the Portland Foreside redevelopment project in Portland, Maine, where I helped integrate the site’s manufacturing and labor history into the new waterfront redesign, and conducting public history research for the Institute of Southern Jewish Life, helping to document and share the histories of Jewish communities across the American South.

  • I help individuals and families uncover, document, understand, and preserve their Jewish family histories. Unlike many genealogical services, which merely help you assemble a family tree, I combine genealogical research with professional historical analysis to place family stories within their broader historical context. Drawing on extensive experience with genealogical databases, archival collections, historical newspapers, census records, immigration records, and other research tools, I help clients understand how larger social, economic, religious, and political forces shaped their ancestors’ lives.

I have worked with numerous community members across the United States to research and document their family histories, and helped them craft narratives that connect their ancestors’ experiences to the wider history of the communities and eras in which they lived.

  • I help students, scholars, and professionals develop stronger and more compelling writing. For more than five years, I’ve worked with clients to clarify their ideas, strengthen their arguments, and communicate effectively with their audiences. My consultations are tailored to each client's goals and can support any stage of the writing process, from brainstorming and organization to revision and polishing final drafts. I am experienced in providing support for personal statements/SoPs for PhD and Master’s programs, Law School, Medical School, and other professional degrees. I also am available to help with fellowship and grant applications, journal articles, conference presentations, book reviews, public-facing scholarship, academic course papers, and other professional and academic writing projects.

At Yale, I worked as a Graduate Writing Fellow at the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, where I worked one-on-one with hundreds of clients across graduate departments and professional programs. Over the course of this work, I helped clients secure competitive fellowships and grants, gain admission to top graduate and professional programs, and successfully revise and publish academic research. In addition to individual consultations, I also taught workshops on productive writing practices, academic publishing, fellowship and grant applications, and writing effective personal statements.
